Has it worked? No.
This blog is not to say I know everything about fad diets and how they don't work, but for me personally, they don't.
This blog is to also emphasize how important it is to do what feels right to your body. This blog isn't to show only my success (as slow as is it) but it tell you about the things that haven't worked for me. Well, killing myself, for one, isn't working. I've gained .2 ounces in the past week. Could it be muscle? Water retention? Sure. But I know how my body works. I've been trying to progress in the Couch to 5k program at the gym, so I've been at Anytime Fitness running on the treadmill for the past few months. Recently, I noticed what I thought was soreness. Well, no problem, I thought. I was sore when I first started Couch to 5k, I can push through it. So I ignored what my body was saying and kept pushing thinking I was being determined and that the weight would have to come off.
Boy was I wrong...
Thanks to my stubbornness, I have given myself shin splints. Very...very bad shin splints. And only eating 1.250 calories a day? NO WAY. That is totally not happening, especially when you have to get your protein from nuts and beans, which is like 200 calories for half a cup.
Lack of calories can still make you gain weight; it slows down your metabolism. So now that I am now a month behind where I wanted to be, I stress to those who will read this.
Pace yourself. Do what your body needs, but listen to your body as well. Don't stress yourself out. Enjoy the workouts and have a nice stretch before and after workouts.
I've noticed that when I am more gentle to my body in my workouts and when I listen to what my body needs, and I eat healthy things when I'm hungry, I lose weight faster. I thought I had to come out of the gym sweating like a pig, then maybe I had accomplished something, when really, it does the opposite effect on my body. I'm not saying slack off in the gym, but I'm not saying go in there and kill yourself! I'm telling you to listen to your body.
It's been a huge struggle thus far getting the rest of this weight off. I have 24 pounds to go, and I wanted to reach my goal by late June. I'll get there someday, and it will be worth it as long as I stay patient with myself and listen to my body.
Everybody's body is different, so don't overwhelm yourself with what health experts and health tips say 100% of the time. Try different things, and if it doesn't feel right, on with the next thing!
Eat right, move around, get a hobby, sleep well, and be happy! The weight will have to come off. Mostly...I have to tell these things to myself because I forget...a lot.
